Newport - Trefdraeth An attractive coastal town between Fishguard and Cardigan on the estuary of the River Nevern, Newport boasts both a Norman Castle and a Church standing on the slopes of Carn Ingli mountain above. Situated at the edge of the Preseli Hills, it's surrounded by many ancient Celtic monuments in the vicinity. The Welsh name, Trefdraeth, can be translated as 'town by the beach' - a long, golden stretch of sand encompassed by craggy headlands. The area falls within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The town has a variety of shops, art galleries, craft shops, a pottery, antiques and collectables, books and coffee shops. There is a wonderful health food shop / delicatessen - locally known as 'Fortnum's'! Pubs and restaurants provide a good variety of menus, including locally caught lobster and crab. Many visitors return regularly to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Newport, the superb coastal views, and the atmosphere of ancient history which pervades the area.
