The Situation...

We are situated close to - and overlooking - the Pembrokeshire Coast in Britain's only coastal National Park. The cottage is in a quiet but accessible situation.

Just west of Newport a road leads up and over the mountain towards the Gwaun Valley beyond; once over the cattle grid, and halfway over the mountain, a no-through lane leads off to some scattered farms. Pengawse Isaf, as our cottage is called, would once have been a typical Welsh farmhouse. It adjoins common grazing and moor land on the mountain side which provides excellent walking - and scrambling - from your very doorstep. A circular walk from the cottage up to Carn Ingli and back takes perhaps a couple of hours by the time you stop to admire the views.

Not that you need to leave the cottage to enjoy a spectacular panorama. On clear days, Snowdonia is visible to the north-east, and sometimes as the sun sets, the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland can be seen silhouetted in the evening sky.

Besides being situated on the mountain side, the cottage enjoys four acres of its own grounds sloping away to the sea.

A paddock below the house contains a pond - so children beware, but there are streams that young ones could enjoy.

Newport is a couple of minutes drive away, or you can walk it - avoiding roads - in about twenty minutes, (but you'll need longer to walk back!)

The beach is accessible from Newport by wading through the river except at high tide when you can either walk round by the Coast Path or drive round to the golf club (ten minutes).

There are also beaches at Pwyllgwaelod - with some fantastic caves to explore - and Cwm yr Eglwys, with its ruined church by the beach.
